Brett was born to two American Airlines employees who met at New York's LaGuardia airport. After high school in the suburbs of Dallas he graduated from the University of Southern California's School of Cinema-Television and got his start shooting documentary tour footage for the Captiol Records band Mae.

He is currently the multimedia producer at Mother Jones magazine. Previously he was a producer for MSNBC's weekend morning show "Up w/ Chris Hayes" and a post-production assistant for the Weinstein Company's documentary Bully.

Brett and his production company Astorya Entertainment have also produced film, video, and web content for clients such as Warner Brothers Music, AOL, Obama for America, Capitol Records, Epic Records, Columbia Records, Aware Music, A Squared Management, Philanthropy Project, Workplace Fairness, Tooth and Nail Records, and Define American.

Brett currently lives in San Francisco and is trying to become a better surfer.
